From July 13-17, authorities in Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Navoi, Fergana, and Bukhara regions temporarily closed kindergartens amid +44…+46°C heat. All kindergartens resumed normal operations on July 20.
According to Gazeta.uz, from July 13-17, 2026, local authorities temporarily closed public and private kindergartens in five regions of Uzbekistan amid extreme heat.
The wave of closures affected Karakalpakstan (from July 13), Khorezm region (July 14-17), parts of Navoi region — Uchkuduk, Nurota, and portions of Tomdi and Konimex districts (July 14-17), as well as Fergana and Bukhara regions (July 16-17). The cause was a forecast of up to +41...+43°C nationwide, and up to +44...+46°C in the north, south, and desert areas.
A representative of the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, Dilfuza Sobirova, clarified that the closures were not universal — each region decided independently based on data from Uzhydromet, the local administration, and sanitary services. All temporarily closed kindergartens resumed normal operations on Monday, July 20.
