The ministry has approved a list of 1,568 schools moving to criterion-based assessment from the 2026/2027 school year. In total the system will cover more than 5,000 schools — about 500 more than the state programme envisaged.
The Ministry of Preschool and School Education has approved the list of schools moving to criterion-based assessment from the 2026/2027 academic year. The list includes 1,568 general secondary schools, and once they join, the system will cover more than 5,000 schools nationwide. In these schools pupils' knowledge and skills are graded on a 100-point scale against set criteria. The ministry announced this; the publication was picked up by Kun.uz.
The system was first introduced in 2023 in 500 schools and has been expanded in stages since. By the end of the 2025/2026 academic year the new assessment procedure covered 3,434 schools — a figure recorded in the state programme approved in February 2026. That same programme called for raising the number of such schools to 4,500 by the 2026/2027 academic year. In practice the expansion came out roughly 500 schools above plan.
The wave is almost entirely regional. Qashqadaryo region adds the most schools — 277, followed by Surxondaryo (164), Jizzax and Samarqand (150 each), Farg'ona (140) and Buxoro (129). Karakalpakstan contributes 116 schools, Andijon 113, Namangan and Xorazm 100 each, Tashkent region 73 and Navoiy 51. The smallest changes are in Sirdaryo region and the capital: 3 and 2 schools respectively.
The full list of schools is published on the gov.uz portal, so you can check whether your child's school is among those changing their assessment procedure in September. For most Tashkent families nothing changes: only two schools in the capital are joining — in the Sergeli and Yashnobod districts.
