From the 2026/2027 academic year, Uzbekistan introduces a unified state exam for 9th- and 11th-grade students — an analogue of a single graduation exam. The reform was announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 15 September 2025. This is reported by Gazeta.uz.
The unified exam replaces several previous exams with one. For 11th-graders, the exam result becomes the single basis for university admission — separate entrance exams are no longer held. For 9th-graders, the result determines the further path: vocational and technical education, or continuing toward higher education.
For 11th-grade graduates, preparation for admission effectively comes down to a single exam rather than a series of separate tests at each university. For ninth-graders, the exam becomes a decision point between a college or technical school and continuing along the academic track. Parents are advised to factor this single milestone into their child's educational trajectory and school choice in advance.
The main stage of first-grade enrolment for the 2026/27 school year runs until 31 July. Applications are filed online, and both the document list and the grounds for refusal are strictly defined.
