By the start of the 2025/2026 school year Uzbekistan has 551 private (non-state) general-education schools — 96 more than a year earlier (+21.1%). The National Statistics Committee reported the figures. Over the past five years the number of private schools has grown roughly 4.5-fold.
Tashkent leads with 145 schools, followed by Fergana region (121) and Samarkand region (43). The fewest are in Navoi and Surkhandarya regions — 5 each — with Karakalpakstan at 10, Jizzakh region at 12 and Syrdarya at 17.
For families the growth means wider choice: beyond the state system there are more schools with different programs and approaches. But the geography stays uneven — the capital and a few regions offer dozens of options, while in some regions private schools can be counted on one hand.
