The first stage — by place of registration, with guaranteed enrolment — closes on 31 July. From 1 to 31 August families may apply to any school, but only where free places remain.
From 1 August Uzbekistan opens the second stage of first-grade admission for the 2026/27 school year: parents will be able to apply to a school outside their assigned catchment area. According to Kun.uz and the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, the first stage — based on permanent or temporary registration — closes on 31 July.
An application filed between 20 June and 31 July to the school of the child's own catchment area guarantees enrolment. The second stage, from 1 to 31 August, carries no such guarantee: a school outside the catchment area will only admit a child if free places remain. After 31 August schools may not admit first-graders at all, whether from inside or outside the catchment area.
Applications are accepted online through the unified public services portal my.gov.uz (a OneID account is required) and the dedicated my.maktab.uz platform. Coverage of the e-service was expanded in 2026: from 64 to 135 districts and cities, and from 1,956 to 5,689 schools. In regions where the digital service is not yet available, admission follows the traditional procedure and the data is entered into the adm.maktab.uz system.
First grade is for children who turn seven during the year of enrolment — those born on or before 31 December 2019. If the catchment school is not a good fit, August is the only window to try for another state school. Private schools accept documents directly and are not bound by this schedule.
As part of the preschool-education reform, a package of benefits for private kindergartens was presented: subsidies, soft loans, teacher salary compensation and tax relief.
