Tafakkur is a private international school in the Yashnabad district of Tashkent, in the Elbek residential complex next to Tashkent metro station. It teaches grades 1 through 11.
The curriculum combines Uzbekistan's state education standards with Japanese, Singaporean and Cambridge methods. English, Russian and Arabic are studied in depth from the primary grades; older students prepare for IELTS, SAT English and SAT Math, and there are IT and computer science classes.
The school leans on practice and independent thinking: lessons are built around experiments, projects and group work rather than memorisation. Students compete in international olympiads — for example the Brainiacs mathematics olympiad, whose finals were held in Malaysia and Singapore.
There is a merit system: a student who receives a scholarship five months in a row moves into the next academic year on a 100% grant.
Facilities include an artificial-turf sports pitch, a sports hall and an assembly hall, a library, a computer room and a canteen, plus chess and football clubs. Every Saturday and Sunday the school holds an open day where families can meet the teachers, see the classrooms and ask about the programmes.
